Her style is to be respectfully direct, in a warm and supportive way that helps you to move forward.
Naomi has expertise in the treatment of grief and loss, trauma, couples and parenting issues. She is committed to staying abreast of the latest treatment techniques and has recently spent a year studying neuroscience for psychotherapists through UNE. She spent three years at the Center for Marital and Family Studies at the University of Denver, and led bereavement groups as a Seacoast Hospice volunteer for many years.
Naomi is certified in EMDR, and has been using this effective technique since 1998 to treat trauma. She is also certified in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). Naomi and Deb Curtis, a Newburyport-based Social Worker, have teamed to form Seacoast EFT. Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy is the most successful research-based model for couples therapy available currently. Their website, www.seacoast-eft.com, offers a vast array of resources for couples, with blogs, handouts, book ideas and a find-a-therapist page. Their podcast, The Couch, is a delightfully informative series of conversations about relationships, where they share what they’ve learned over decades of working with couples. The podcast is available for free on iTunes.”
She received her undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and her Masters of Counseling from the University of Dayton. She completed her Ph.D. through Tilburg University, where she researched the topic of collaboration across disciplines with both the Family Practice and Integrative providers at Whole Life Health Care. Naomi is an Associate of the Taos Institute, a community of scholars and practitioners committed to the development of ideas and practices that promote connection among families, communities and organizations around the world. What to Expect from the First Appointment?
It can help to think of the first appointment as a way to know if we will be a good fit. I’ll take a history and then we’ll discuss what therapy could do for you. You will leave with a clear sense of how our work together would feel, and that will help guide you forward.
