Naturopathic and Functional Medicine

Rachel Anderson 2017-18 SQUARERachel Anderson, ND
Thursdays, beginning July 12, 2018

As a naturopathic doctor and functional medicine practitioner, I specialize in personalized healthcare. I work with you to find and resolve the underlying causes of your symptoms and restore your body’s innate ability to heal from the inside out.

Instead of the disease-centered symptom suppression focus of conventional healthcare, I address the health and functioning of your whole self – YOUR unique body, mind, and spirit.

In our work together, I will consider and address the following:

  • Nutrition – Is the food you’re eating contributing to your symptoms? Do you have nutritional deficiencies? What kind of diet is right for you?
  • Lifestyle – How do you spend your time? What’s important to you? What about rest and relaxation? Play and joy? Movement? How might your daily habits be helping or harming you?
  • Environmental Factors – Are you exposed to chemicals or other toxins in your work or your home? How good is your body at biotransformation (processing and eliminating toxins)? Could toxins or metals be contributing to your health issues?
  • Digestion – The digestive system is intimately connected to every other body system and its health affects the entire body. How well are you digesting and absorbing your food? Is there overgrowth of any organism in your digestive tract (bacteria, yeast, parasites, etc.)? Do you have a “leaky gut”?
  • Hormones – How well-balanced are your stress hormones, thyroid, and other hormones? Are hormone imbalances contributing to your health issues?
  • Body-Mind-Spirit Connections – Psychological, spiritual, and social factors have a profound impact on physical health and well-being and vice versa. How might these issues be helping or harming you?
  • Genetic Variability – The latest research shows that we can turn our genes on and off through our food choices and lifestyle. How might the expression of your genes be contributing to your symptoms?

You’ve come to the right place.

As a naturopathic doctor and functional medicine practitioner I combine cutting-edge evidence-based medicine with traditional natural medicines like nutrition, herbs, homeopathy and acupuncture to support your healing at the body, mind, and spirit levels.

I am dedicated to finding the underlying root cause of your symptoms and working in partnership with you to build personalized solutions that work into your life.

If you’re interested in my approach and wondering if I can help you, I invite you to schedule a free 15 minute phone call so we can chat. I look forward to speaking with you soon!

Insurance Accepted

Does health insurance pay for naturopathic services?

Flexible spending accounts and health savings accounts can generally be used to pay for naturopathic services. In 2012, some New Hampshire insurers began covering naturopathic care.

At this time, I do not contract with insurance companies and I am happy to provide you with a detailed invoice containing all of the necessary codes for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement after your visit if your insurance company covers naturopathic care.

What to Expect from your First Appointment

I will listen to your story and to your intuition. I will consider your unique biochemistry and lifestyle and we’ll work together to design a treatment plan that works for your unique needs and your life.

You and I will be partners on your journey to deep healing and vitality. Your voice will be as important as mine, if not more so.

You will be in charge of doing the heavy lifting to improve your own health. You’re driving the bus, I’m just the navigator.

We’ll test, not guess.
To get at the root of your health issues as efficiently as possible we’ll need to do some investigation. We’ll start with a full evaluation and I’ll recommend testing to find the obstacles that are getting in the way of your healing. My testing recommendations will be based on your health history and symptoms and may include testing for food sensitivities, vitamin and nutrient deficiencies, hormone imbalances, and microbial imbalances in the gut, to name a few.

We’ll focus on natural treatments.
I’ll use prescription medicines when needed, but I’ll primarily use natural treatments including whole-foods based nutrition, lifestyle modification, movement, and stress reduction techniques. I’ll also utilize herbal medicines, nutrient supplements, acupuncture, and homeopathy. I may recommend acupuncture, craniosacral therapy or other bodywork, or counseling with other providers.

“Dr. Anderson is so thorough – she was able to diagnose my auto-immune thyroid disease even after other doctors had missed it.  I have been so grateful to have her on my healthcare team.  She is easy to talk to, very down to earth, and never pressures me to purchase products like other naturopaths tend to do. I have given her name out to several friends and family members over the past year and would encourage anyone struggling with autoimmune issues or other difficult diagnoses to reach out to her immediately.”
-Alexis R.

“I see Dr. Anderson as a natural superhero. I came to see her 24 years into an illness; I was considered a medical mystery to Western doctors. I had been used to seeing doctors who pre-judged and didn’t listen. Dr. Anderson was extremely compassionate to my situation and she listened to my concerns and feedback throughout the healing process. I was also very pleased that she proactively offered many solutions throughout the course of treatment. The resolution to good health was not easy, but I felt that she was my partner throughout the whole process. I am extremely grateful for her excellent care and I am a patient for life!”
