Lisa believes that there are many factors in today’s culture which lead one to feel isolated, unfulfilled or sad. Lisa’s style of therapy is strength-based, solution focused and incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, TaT, mindfulness, etc. to help clients move through limiting thoughts and patterns to reach their goals.
She is a Level Two trained EMDR specialist. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing can break through the beliefs, experiences and patterns that often keep individuals from moving forward in their lives. It has components which assists clients in building resources and healing past injuries and traumas.
Lisa also provides equine-facilitated psychotherapy. Individuals often can experience emotions that are complex and, in turn, challenging to cope with. The well-being of each person is linked to their self-image and the quality of their relationships with others. Often as people grow up they have missed opportunities to develop as fully as they are capable of due to abuse, neglect or other hindering factors. Horses are wonderful facilitators in helping a person learn the qualities needed for successful relationships. They have the ability to assist humans in emotional healing. Working with horses allows individuals to try out coping skills with creatures who are less threatening than another human. Horses model interpersonal qualities that enable people to have more satisfying relationships that include mutual love, trust, respect, acceptance, patience and compassion. This therapy has brought tremendous results to many who need another ‘gateway’ for healing beyond traditional talk therapy.
In her private practice, Lisa provides parenting education and support. Lisa has experience working with children, adolescents and adults in agencies, residential/day treatment programs and schools. Within the school system she has worked as a consultant, vocational/guidance counselor and behavioral specialist. Lisa believes it is important to continue to expand her knowledge base by attending conferences, and being a member of various Professional associations.
