Anna Swan, APRN

Anna Swan is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner who provides health care to people of all ages.

In 1992 she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Simmons College in Boston, MA. After graduating, Anna worked at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and Boston Children’s Hospital (as well as many other hospitals across America).

While at Simmons College, Anna studied hydrotherapy in the pediatric population. Her interest in alternative and natural therapies grew when she met and worked with Mara Lamstein, APRN— now of Whole Life Health Care — who helped her learn more about integrative medicine.

Anna has always wanted to work in an integrative practice that encourages conventional, preventive and complementary medicine. She was first introduced to integrative medicine in Switzerland when she was 18 years old and suffering from a sore throat. After visiting an herbalist for her condition she was told that she could choose between consulting a local doctor about her illness or trying herbs to help her heal instead. Anna took the herbal route and has never had strep throat again.

Driven to see the world, Anna has worked as a traveling nurse in the United States and spent a year abroad in Nepal, where she taught nurses better nursing skills and infection control. While in Nepal, Anna assisted in the set-up of a “well baby day” at a Lutheran missionary Clinic in Patan. During these extensive travels, Anna altered her nursing path and changed from adult to pediatric nursing.

After 12 years of nursing in the U.S and Nepal, Anna felt the need for more autonomy and a desire to learn more about preventive medicine. She settled in Colorado, employed as a pediatric nurse, while working toward a Master’s degree at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley. In 2004 she graduated and started working as a family nurse practitioner in a pediatric gastroenterology clinic in Denver.  In 2006, she moved back to the East Coast and settled in this beautiful seacoast area to be closer to the ocean and her parents.

Anna worked at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital and then for Kittery Family Practice prior to joining Whole Life Health Care in February 2013.  As of September 2021, she is also teaching classes on Primary Care of Children and Adolescents to nurse practitioner students at Northeastern University.

Anna Swan is not accepting new patients.
